What is our MuckMat made of?
Fantastic Fabric
We use nonwoven geotextile, fused like felt—strong, unravel-proof, and nearly indestructible.
Originally made for roads, it allows 90 gallons of water per minute to pass through while blocking 98% of sunlight.
Soil-Stabilizing Geogrid
Our specialty geogrid transfers your weight over a larger area, while square apertures in the grid fill with muck particles.
Adding the geogrid as the bottom layer acts like snowshoe webbing and prevents you from sinking in muck
Fabulous Frames
Our frames are made of cold-rolled, “aluminized-steel,” tubing. Cold-rolled steel is far stronger than regular steel. It’s then bonded to molten aluminum — giving our frames a combination of properties possessed by neither steel nor aluminum alone; both corrosion-resistance and strength.

The reason why you sink in muck and mud
a. You’ve probably noticed this at some point. You step in mud — notice the mud slides sideways around your shoe — and you sink. MuckMats prevent soil from moving sideways — so you don’t sink.
b. Because you have greater “mass,” light soil particles move sideways to get out of your way . Gravity pulls you down — the soil moves sideways — and you sink in muck. Yuck!
MuckMats work like snowshoes
Think of snowshoes. You know they transfer your weight over a larger area — and the snowshoe’s webbing traps snow crystals, locking them together. They can’t move sideways — you walk over snow. Make sense?
Imagine marbles rolling around
a. Picture putting a handful of marbles — they roll around easily — just by blowing on them. Now imagine you lay a barrier on the counter — something like chicken wire. We’ve all seen chicken wire.
