How LakeMat began something else

It started out simple enough: I wanted a beach, so my kids could play in the lake. I spent hours raking weeds. It looked better, but it didn’t help the “yucky” mucky bottom at all. I put in sand. The sand sank in the muck.

Meanwhile, weeds grew back, even thicker. I poisoned them; it didn’t work well, killed maybe half of the weeds — an expensive lesson on what doesn’t work.

So I started looking for a real solution — one that would solve both my weed and muck problem. It took a while … years, actually.

Good news — problem solved!

I eventually found the perfect materials in an unlikely place: highway construction.

Building highways on soft terrain requires a base to stabilize soil under the immense weight of roads. Specialized materials are used to build solid bases that highways set on.

We use these exact same materials (plus some of our own) to build our LakeMat® line. The materials we use hold up highways — they’ll hold you up, too.

LakeMat® technology works better than anything you’ve ever seen or heard of: better than raking and cutting, better than herbicides, lake rollers, muck blowers, muck pellets or any other weed gizmo someone dreamed up.

And the LakeMat® line is different from any other type of “lake weed barrier.” No other company has products made to hold weight.

Lacey Mats are named for the lake where they were born: Lacey Lake, in Eaton County, Michigan. Lacey, Inc. is our business name. Lacey is also my German Shorthaired Pointer’s name, Lacey Mae. She’s a good dog.
