Meet Hydrilla Killa™
Hydrilla Killa™ attacks hydrilla where the plant actually lives — on the lake bottom.
Instead of cutting weeds at the surface, it covers them with a heavy-duty barrier that blocks sunlight and stops growth completely. Without light, the plant uses up its stored energy and dies — including the roots.
No cutting. No raking.
No spreading fragments.
No regrowth.
Just place the mat where you want it. It sinks into position and stays securely on the lake bottom thanks to its reinforced steel frame and heavy-duty material
Hydrilla Killa™ is a heavy-duty lake weed mat designed to eliminate invasive weeds like hydrilla and milfoil. It works naturally by blocking sunlight, stopping weed growth at the source—no chemicals required.
In-water, framed mat for hydrilla weed control
Eliminates aggressive weeds like hydrilla, milfoil, and pondweed by blocking sunlight.
Only the plants beneath the mat are affected, leaving surrounding areas untouched.
No chemicals or herbicides. Hydrilla Killa™ works naturally and allows water and oxygen to flow through the lakebed, keeping the ecosystem healthy while improving usable space.
By cutting off light, weeds are forced to use up all stored energy — including in the roots and tubers. Leave it longer for a cleaner, more complete result with little to no regrowth.
Hydrilla Killa™ Destroys the Entire Plant — Roots, Stems, Tubers, and Al
Hydrilla survives most control methods because the underground parts remain alive.
The stems you see at the surface are only part of the plant. The real engine of hydrilla growth is underground — in its roots, buds, and tubers.
Of all the available methods — chemicals, harvesting, carp, and cutting — Hydrilla Killa™ is the only method capable of destroying the entire plant at once.
Hydrilla Killa™ uses a simple biological fact:
Every green plant on Earth depends on sunlight to survive.
Block the sunlight, and the plant eventually exhausts the energy stored in its roots and tubers.
No chemicals.
No repeated treatments.
No swimming restrictions.
Just sunlight deprivation doing what cutting and chemicals can’t: Hydrilla Killa™ stops the Godzilla of lake weeds in its tracks.
How Hydrilla Control Methods Compare
| Method | How It Works | Kills Roots & Tubers? | Fragmentation Risk | Long-Term Control |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hydrilla Kill | Blocks sunlight and presses plants against the bottom until stored energy in roots and tubers is exhausted. | Yes | None - plants are not disturbed | Excellent |
| Mechanical Harvesting | Machines cut and collect vegetation from the surface. | No | High - cutting creates fragments that drift and start new colonies | Temporary |
| Hand Raking / Cutting | Plants are manually cut or pulled from the lake bottom. | No | High - fragments easily spread | Temporary |
| Chemical Herbicides | Herbicides kill visible plant growth. | Partial - roots and tubers frequently survive | Low fragmentation but regrowth common | Temporary / repeated treatments |
| Grass Carp / Tilapia | Fish consume hydrilla as food. | No | None | Limited - hydrilla usually grows faster than fish can eat it |
| Lake-Wide Treatments | Herbicides or large-scale mechanical removal. | Sometimes partial | Varies | Expensive and often requires repeated treatments |
HYDRILLA GROWS FAST.
HYDRILLA KILLA™ WORKS FASTER.
How to Use Hydrilla Killa™
Simply place the mat directly over the affected area. It sinks into position and stays securely on the lake bottom.
For best results, leave the mat in place for at least 12 weeks. This allows the plants beneath it to fully exhaust their stored energy and die off completely. In heavier infestations or cooler water, leaving it longer will provide even better, longer-lasting results.

Can it stay in place permanently?
Yes. Many customers leave mats in place year-round in high-use areas like docks, swim zones, and boat access lanes.
As long as the mat is in place, weeds cannot grow through it. Over time, some sediment may collect on top, so occasional cleaning may be needed — often after 1–2 seasons depending on conditions.

Repositioning and Depth of the mat
Hydrilla Killa™ is most commonly used in 1–8 feet of water, where weed growth impacts usability the most.
It can be used in deeper water, though installation may require additional help.
If you need to move the mat, clear off any built-up sediment first. Instead of lifting it straight up, raise one edge and slide it along the bottom. Water flow underneath helps reduce weight and makes repositioning much easier.

What is our Hydrilla Killa™ made of?

Super-Strong Non-Woven Geotextile
Ultra-durable polypropylene material stops photosynthesis, cutting off the energy weeds need to survive.
Unlike cheap landscape fabrics or plastic sheets, this fabric is engineered for underwater use — allowing water and gases to pass through while preventing plant growth.

Heavy-Duty, Aluminized Steel Frame
Each mat is supported by a rugged 1ÂĽ-inch aluminized steel frame that gives it structure and weight. This keeps the mat firmly positioned on the lake bottom, even in waves or light current.
The frame provides the perfect balance of strength and corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term performance in harsh aquatic environments.

Purpose-Built Weed Control Design
Hydrilla Killa™ is engineered specifically to eliminate invasive weeds at the source. The frame keeps the fabric stretched tight against the lake bottom, pressing plants down while blocking sunlight.
This combination forces weeds to exhaust their stored energy — killing them completely, including the roots that typically cause regrowth.
